Colour-block knitting

What you need

Matching-weight yarn in nearest DMC colours; knitting needles, tapestry needle and bobbins.

These supplies describe the Carolers example; open a project for its exact list and sizes.

How to begin

  1. Cast on 76: 74 chart stitches plus 1 edge stitch each side. Work 3 plain rows.
  2. Read RS right to left, WS left to right. Use a bobbin per colour area.
  3. Twist old and new yarns at each change to close holes.
  4. After the chart, work 3 plain rows and bind off. Seam only the added edges; yarn and sizes exclude them.

Knit or purl EVERY cell. Blank cells use the base yarn; the key includes its stitch count. Use separate bobbins for separate colour areas. Yarn amounts are planning estimates; read Finishing & help for setup, rates and other weights.
