Yarn stitched on canvas

What you need

Mono canvas; tapestry needle; DMC cotton or suitable tapestry yarn. Choose strands to cover your mesh. Ornament: felt backing; twisted cord, about 25 in (64 cm) on 14-mesh incl. tuck; velvet ribbon hanger.

These supplies describe the Carolers example; open a project for its exact list and sizes.

How to begin

  1. Find the shape centre and count to the motif.
  2. Work continental tent stitch from right to left. Come up at lower left and go down at upper right.
  3. Turn the canvas 180 degrees for the next row; work right to left again. Fill cream cells inside the outline.
  4. Leave outside cells bare; secure tails, block and finish.

Continental tent stitch. Cream cells inside the circle are DMC Ecru / cream tapestry wool; white cells outside are unworked. Outline = stitched edge guide; trim 1/2 in beyond it. Sizes include the stitched cream border. Cut canvas with 3 inches extra on every side. Key yarn amounts use 13-mesh; other options and assumptions are in Finishing & help.
