What you need

Miyuki Delica 11/0; size 12 beading needle; nylon beading thread; bead mat and scissors.

How to begin

1. Add a stop bead, leaving a 6 in tail. Foundation band 1: pick up columns 150 to 1.
2. For each next band, add odd columns 1 to 149; then even columns 150 to 2.
3. Each time, pick up 1 bead, skip 1 and pass through the next raised bead. Keep all border beads.
4. 122 chart bands = 244 stitch rows. Even columns sit half a bead down.

The motif uses 2 bead columns per source column to retain small details. Even columns shift DOWN half a bead. A chart band contains two stitch rows. Delica colours are screen estimates. Includes background border; sizes and screen matches are estimates. Buy 10% spare. Grams assume about 190 Delica 11/0 per gram (supplier figure: 5 g is about 1,000 beads); buy whole 5 g or 7.2 g packs. Detail-preserving adaptation: 2 bead columns per original source column.
